The country has been able to maintain a remarkable stability since 1963 when it got its independence. Kenyans have also been able to enjoy an increase in their freedom since the emergency of multi-party system in the country because they are able to exercise their democratic rights.
Mwai Kibaki emerged to be the winner of presidential seat in 2002. His ambitions were to, ensure economy growth, curb corruprion, improve education system and reinforce the new constitution. He was successful in changing the constitution in year 2010. This have not only been Mwai Kibaki’s ambitions but also the current president, Uhuru Kenyatta have adopted them.
Since then the three factors have been used by politicians to campaign for themselves most especially those vying for presidential seat. Mwai Kibaki campaigned for the seat using the same agendas. What of Uhuru Kenyatta, education, industrialization to improve economic growth, curbing corruption, etc.and currently he wants to change the constitution by implementing the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI)
These have been things that kenyans have been hearing now and then but no action have been taken to fulfill them. Mwai Kibaki was able to build the THIKA SUPER HIGHWAY which is the only thing that kenyas can related with his governance though it left Kenya with a huge debt. Uhuru Kenyatta has built the SGR which has also left Kenya floating with debts.
Realating to this scenarios it seems like the agendas are only meant for campaigning but after they get what they need no implementation is made.
Viewing the current government, at its first 5 years of governance, the government was able to transmit electricity to a higher percentage of citizens though it was for a period of time to please citizens though there were those who didnt benefit from it. It was also able to convince Kenyans that education is free but in relation to now it doesnt seem so.
The second ruling term of the Uhuru government things have become worse than ever. It all started with the “Handshake”thing which have splitted the government into two. Also it has led to the mocking and reduction of the governing powers of the Deputy President William Ruto who was an allie to the president but now viewed as his rival.
It is after this period that the counrry has experienced difficulties such as a hype up in corruption, division among politicians:kieleweke and Tangatanga, those who support the president and those on Ruto’s side. Lately we have seen this two parties fighting over and over again and leading to imprisonment of some Tangatanga politicians though they are released on bail. The strongest and powerful will always win the battle. It has been seen in our current governance.
Politics have been everything in this country. Everywhere you go, every radio or Tv station you tune in, online platforms, Everything has become politics.
The question is, Will our country be free from this slaverly of politics?
